Design in service of place
The National Trust care for places shaped by time, landscape and collective memory. Our role was to support that work with contemporary design that knows when to speak – and when to step back.

    Place-based communication

Working across properties and projects in the South West, we partnered with local teams as brand champions, helping translate complex stories into clear, confident communication. The focus was never on reinvention, but on relevance: ensuring heritage could be experienced in ways that felt accessible, thoughtful and current.

Clarity without intrusion
Much of the work centred on interpretation and engagement – from seasonal trails and printed materials to bespoke exhibitions and editorial-style content. Each piece was designed to respond to its setting, allowing place to lead while design provided structure, rhythm and legibility. Typography, layout and language were used with restraint.

Flexible systems, human outcomes
Across sites, formats and scales – including conference branding and installation – the work balanced consistency with specificity. A shared visual approach provided coherence, while individual places retained their own voice and character. This flexibility allowed the work to adapt across environments without ever feeling imposed or generic.

A different kind of partnership
This collaboration reflects a shared belief: that good design doesn’t compete with heritage. It supports it. By prioritising clarity, care and context, the work demonstrates how contemporary graphic design can sit comfortably within historic environments – enhancing understanding without overshadowing place.
